Disney+ Plus Password Sharing Crackdown Coming

Streaming Service to Implement Measures in September

Disney CEO Bob Iger has announced that Disney+ will begin cracking down on password sharing in September.

The move comes as Disney+ looks to increase its revenue and combat password sharing, which has become increasingly common among streaming services.

Currently, Disney+ allows users to create up to seven profiles, and up to four devices can stream content simultaneously using the same account. However, under the new rules, users will only be able to stream content on two devices at the same time and will be prompted to create their own account if they try to log in from a third device.

Disney has not yet announced how it will enforce the new rules, but it is expected to use a combination of IP addresses and device fingerprinting to identify users who are sharing their passwords.

The crackdown on password sharing is likely to be unpopular with some users, but Disney is betting that it will ultimately increase its revenue by converting more password sharers into paying subscribers.
