Kansas State Football: Klieman Recaps Arizona, Previews BYU

Cats Bounce Back, Now Face Ranked Cougars

After a tough loss in Week 1, the Kansas State Wildcats bounced back with a dominant 34-17 victory over the Arizona Wildcats in Week 2.

Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman was pleased with his team's performance, especially after the disappointing season-opening loss to South Dakota.

“I thought our guys responded really well after last week's game,” Klieman said. “We had a great week of practice, and it showed on the field today. We played with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and we executed our game plan very well.”

The Wildcats were led by quarterback Adrian Martinez, who threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns.

Running back Deuce Vaughn also had a big day, rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats' defense also played well, holding Arizona to just 17 points.

Klieman Previews BYU

With the win over Arizona, Kansas State is now 1-1 on the season.

The Wildcats will face their toughest test of the season so far when they travel to Provo, Utah, to take on the No. 25 BYU Cougars on Saturday.

BYU is coming off a 52-14 victory over the South Florida Bulls in Week 2.

“BYU is a great team,” Klieman said. “They're well-coached, they have a lot of talented players, and they play in a great atmosphere.

“We're going to have to be at our best to compete with them.”

The Wildcats will need to play a clean game and avoid turnovers if they want to have a chance to upset BYU.

Klieman is confident that his team is up for the challenge.

“I believe in our guys,” Klieman said. “We've got a lot of experience on this team, and we're playing with a lot of confidence right now.

“We're going to go into Provo and give it our best shot.”
