Messi and Álvarez score goals to lead Argentina to victory
Argentina will face Brazil in the final on Sunday
Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the 2024 Copa América Semifinals on Tuesday night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Goals from Julián Álvarez and Lionel Messi gave Argentina the victory and a berth in the final against Brazil on Sunday.
Álvarez opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a left-footed shot from inside the box. Messi made it 2-0 in the 57th minute with a penalty kick.
Canada had a few chances to score, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The best chance came in the 83rd minute when Alphonso Davies hit the post with a shot from outside the box.
Argentina will be looking to win their first Copa América title since 1993 when they face Brazil in the final on Sunday. Brazil is the defending champion and has won the tournament nine times.
