James David Vance, born James Donald Bowman on August 2, 1984, is an American author, venture capitalist, politician, lawyer, and former United States Marine.Buoyed by an endorsement from Trump, Vance placed first in a crowded Republican primary in May 2022. In the November general election, he was elected to the US Senate, becoming Ohio's first new senator since 2010.
Once critical of former President Donald J. Trump, Vance has since embraced Trump's policies and rhetoric. He is a member of the Senate Republican Steering Committee and is leading a group of Senate Republicans pledging to block President Joe Biden's judicial nominees.
