Ernesto Valverde has been appointed as the new coach of FC Barcelona, the club has announced. The 53-year-old takes over from Ronald Koeman, who was sacked last week following a poor run of results. Valverde is a highly experienced coach, having previously managed Athletic Bilbao and Valencia. He has won two Copa del Rey titles with Athletic Bilbao and also led the club to the final of the Europa League in 2012. Valverde is known for his attacking style of play and will be tasked with getting Barcelona back to winning ways. The club has struggled in recent months, winning just three of their last eight La Liga matches. Valverde will be officially unveiled as Barcelona's new coach on Thursday. He will then take charge of his first match on Saturday, when Barcelona host Real Madrid in the El Clásico.
